Matthew Gonzalez was born and raised in Northern California. He has earned a B.S. in Kinesiology (San Jose State University), a M.A. in Kinesiology (San Jose State University), a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (West Virginia University), and Ph.D. in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology (West Virginia University). He has held full-time professional roles of Lecturer (San Jose State University), Assistant Athletic Director of Sport Psychology and Counseling (University of Vermont), and has now found himself a home as a Performance Psychology Instructor at USMA within the Center for Enhanced Performance. In his role, he instructs sections of RS101, RS104, and PL360; works individually with cadets on enhancing their mental performance across all pillars of cadet development; consults with several corps squad teams; liaises with various academy departments; and serves as the Internship Coordinator for the Mental Training Lab. He is happily married to Jordan Schmidt-Gonzalez; and they are the proud parents of a son, Max.
