After ending last semester with a resounding 7-3 victory over Navy, the Army West Point Men’s Club Hockey Team looked to continue its momentum into the spring semester.
To start the final stretch of the regular season, Army faced off against Roger Williams University on Jan. 9 at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, New York. While play in the first period began evenly, Army showed their strength late in the period scoring three goals within 72 seconds.
Goals were scored by freshman Remy Bergeron, freshman Jackson Dickson and junior Wyatt Sirimaturos.
Following the first period outburst and display of talent, play returned to being fairly even, as Roger Williams scored two goals, however, Army ended the second period up 4-2 thanks to freshman Jaden Young’s first career goal.
In the third, Army’s drive and work ethic pulled through, as they largely controlled play and won the game 6-2 thanks to a goal each from freshman Robert James and senior James Delia.
Freshman stalwart goaltender Cadet Charlie Zurowski made 21 of 23 saves, most notably several key stops in the second period when it appeared Roger Williams would be able to close the gap.
Overall, Army continued its winning ways and is now looking toward this weekend of games against Penn State and the final stretch of this season before SECHL playoffs begin. Army is poised to make another run to the national playoffs in St. Louis.
