Garrison swept the Directorate of Emergency Services/Military Police (DES/MPs) two games to none in the best-of-three upper bracket championship series to win the West Point Summer Softball League upper bracket Aug. 9 at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Softball Field #3. The first-seeded Garrison (18-0) won game one, 17-3, and then took the series with a 11-2 win in game two over fourth-seeded DES/MPs (13-11).
With the two victories in the championship, Garrison became the first team to go undefeated in the West Point Summer Softball League since the Directorate of Public Works (25-0) earned that status in 2005.
Despite the loss, DES/MPs worked its way through the ladder upper bracket by defeating third-seed Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation in three games (19-3, 13-22, 23-13) and the second-seed Directorate of Admissions (9-4, 4-11, 15-10) in three games in the semifinal to earn its way to the championship series.
