Patrick J. Lupfer graduated from Northeastern University (Boston, MA) with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was commissioned as an Engineer Officer on 13 January 2013, at which time he was also recognized as an Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate and the number 1 out of 5,579 cadets on the National Order of Merit List.
MAJ Lupfer serves as an Instructor within the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy. He previously served with the 307th Engineer Battalion (Fort Bragg, NC - known as Fort Liberty since 2023), 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Fort Bragg, NC), Headquarters, 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 82nd Airborne Division (Fort Bragg), Headquarters, 20th Engineer Brigade (Fort Bragg), and 27th Engineer Battalion (Airborne) (Fort Bragg). His assignments have included Company Intelligence Support Team Officer in Charge, Task Force Battle Captain, Platoon Leader, S3-Air Operations Officer, Brigade Assistant Plans Officer, Theater Engineer Brigade Program Manager, and Company Commander. MAJ Lupfer’s operational experience includes two deployments: one to Afghanistan in 2013 (Operation Enduring Freedom XIII) and one to Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria in 2018-19 (Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve).
MAJ Lupfer is a graduate of numerous U.S. Army leadership schools and has also graduated from the U.S. Army Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt courses. In addition to his military schooling, he has earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Missouri.
MAJ Lupfer’s military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster, the Inherent Resolve Campaign medal, the Afghanistan Campaign medal, the NATO ISAF medal, the Ranger tab, the Sapper tab, the Master Parachutist badge, the Pathfinder badge, and the Air Assault badge. He is a recipient of the Steel de Fleury Medal and is authorized to wear Spanish, Dutch, German, Canadian, and Latvian parachutist badges.
