MAJ Tyler Halbert graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 2011. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry. His first assignment was to Fort Wainwright, AS, where he served as a Stryker Platoon Leader, Stryker Company Executive Officer, and a Headquarters and Headquarters Company Executive Officer in the 3rd Battalion (Bn), 21st Infantry Regiment (Inf), 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), 25th Infantry Division (ID). 

Following his assignment to Fort Wainwright, then-CPT Halbert attended the Maneuver Officer’s Captains Career Course (MCCC) at Fort Benning, GA. He then was assigned to Fort Shafter, HA, with the 196th Infantry Brigade where he served as an Assist Mobilization Officer in support of U.S. Army National Guard and Reserve Component forces mobilization efforts in U.S. Army Pacific Command for eight months. CPT Halbert then transitioned to the 25th ID at Schofield Barracks, HA, where he served as a BN Plans Officer for 12 months in the 2nd BN, 27th Inf, 3 Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). CPT Halbert commanded Delta Company and was selected to command Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd BN, 27th Inf, for an additional eight months. 

Following his successful commands, CPT Halbert transitioned to a Functional Area 52 (FA52) - Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Officer where he immediately started graduate school to pursue a Master of Science in nuclear engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). He reported to his current position as Deputy Director in the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Nuclear Science and Engineering Research Center (DTRA NSERC) in spring 2024.  

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1-OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3-OLC), Expert Infantryman Badge, and Army Parachutist Badge. He is a Centurion in the Order of St. Maurice and a Distinguished Member of the 27th Infantry Regiment.

MAJ Halbert is married to the former Elise Kelly, and they have two sons.
