Mr. Rittger is the Administrative Officer/Executive Officer for the Department of Chemistry and Life Science. After earning a B.S. in chemistry from the United States Military Academy in 2000, he commissioned as a field artillery officer. From 2000-2004, he served as a platoon leader, battery operations officer, and battalion S1 in a MLRS battalion at Fort Sill, OK, with a deployment to Iraq in 2003. He was then stationed in South Korea where he served as an attack aviation battalion fire support officer, MLRS battalion fire direction officer, and MLRS battery commander from 2004-2007. Upon completion of a M.S. in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma in 2009, he was assigned as an instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Life Science where he taught general chemistry I and II, as well as course directed and taught advanced general chemistry I & II. In 2012, he returned to the operational force as a security force advise and assist team chief and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. Upon returning from deployment, he served as a battalion S3 and XO in a 105mm/155mm field artillery battalion at Fort Drum, NY. In 2015, he returned to the Department of Chemistry and Life Science as an instructor and department XO where he taught General Chemistry I & II, as well as course directed and taught Advanced General Chemistry I. Mr. Rittger retired from active duty in December 2020 and started in his current role shortly after.
