Black History Project at West Point

The Black History Project (BHP) at West Point’s MISSION is to educate ourselves and the Academy about the history of the Black experience at West Point and in the armed forces, train our cadets to think critically and thoughtfully about the experiences of a diverse group of people at West Point and in the armed forces, and to inspire students and faculty to conduct research about Black history and incorporate it into their broader academic experience.

The purpose of the BHP is to bridge the gaps between existing known Black history and course content taught, to identify gaps in understanding of Black history at West Point and facilitate the growth and development of that scholarship, and to create a dedicated space for the study and discussion of Black history at West Point.

Our vision: The BHP is a permanent, productive, inclusive, and diverse setting for cadets and faculty to engage with Black History, leading to an informed, engaged, and committed student body that will become leaders of character committed to developing inclusive and informed teams in the army and communities they join.
