Cadet Publications

DCA's Cadet Publications Branch produces the award-winning Howitzer Yearbook and the West Point Bugle Notes, known as the first-year student (or plebe) "Book of Knowledge." Bugle Notes are required reading during Cadet Basic Training (CBT).  

With production assistance from cadet staff, other publications published include a summer training mini-yearbook, a literary magazine, a cadet yearly planner, and a West Point wall calendar. All are available for purchase.

• Howitzer Yearbook
  • Over 600-page custom-designed and award-winning book featuring our graduating class, showcasing all our cadets in their company groups, sports, and activities.
  • Firsties and Plebes will automatically receive a yearbook through cadet account charges. Parents must order Yearlings and Cows if they wish to purchase a yearbook. A limited number of extras are ordered, so pre-ordering online is highly recommended.
  • Yearbooks are ordered in spring, produced in the summer/ fall, and delivered in late fall, approximately six months after graduation. All books are shipped home.
  • Online ordering information, pricing, and links will be available in late March/early April.
  • Parents and parent clubs may place advertisements in the Howitzer Yearbook. Ordering and pricing information will be available in late March/early April and through the West Point Parents Coordinator.
• Bugle Notes
  • The “Cadet Bible” and your new cadet’s keepsake training memento from their first summer at West Point. Everything you ever wanted or needed to know about West Point is in this small, custom, hard-bound book.
  • Plebes will automatically receive a copy of Bugle Notes through cadet account charges. Parents may purchase extra copies as souvenir keepsakes.
  • Ordering information and pricing will be available in late June. Bugle Notes copies will be sold on R-Day and via mail-order after R-Day.
• West Point Wall Calendar (9x12)
  • The 12-month (January-December) calendar features beautiful cadet and staff photography of West Point and key dates. It is a great keepsake or a gift!
  • Online ordering information, pricing, and links will be available in October online at Ikehall.com or via check. No phone orders.
• Cadet Planner
  • The Cadet Planner is a resource for cadets and parents alike! It is a 6-x-9 desk planner running from August to August of each academic year, containing holidays, academic key dates, football and show schedules, and includes maps and much information that makes the planner relevant past the expiration of the calendar.
  • Plebes will automatically receive a copy of the cadet planner through cadet account charges. Parents may purchase copies for their upperclass cadets (with on-post cadet pick-up) or for themselves as resource keepsakes.
  • Ordering information and pricing will be available in late March/early April.
• Mortar Magazine
  • The Mortar Magazine is a 70- to 80-page mini-Camp Buckner yearbook chronicling the life and training of your cadets during the summer between Plebe and Yearling years, known as the Camp Buckner experience, including company and platoon photos along with colorful, candid depictions of training life and times.
  • Yearlings will automatically receive a copy of the Mortar Magazine through cadet account charges. Parents may purchase extra copies as resource keepsakes.
  • Ordering information and pricing will be available in April.
• Circle in the Spiral Literary Magazine
  • The Circle in the Spiral is our cadet literary magazine, published annually through the spring, featuring original artwork, photographs, poetry, narratives, and more, all authored by cadets!
  • Ordering information and pricing will be available in late April.
