Performance Psychology Program

The mission of the Performance Psychology Program is to educate and train cadets in performance enhancement techniques that foster their full development as leaders of character. The West Point Performance Psychology Program integrates five mental skills around a unifying conceptual understanding of the psychology of improvement and success. This educational model provides a systematic approach to empowering individuals and organizations.

Performance psychology training is built upon an understanding of how thoughts and emotions interact with anatomy and physiology to dramatically affect human performance. To take advantage of this connection between the mental and the physical, the Performance Psychology Program provides training in the five interrelated mental skills pictured above. Each skill is presented in its own detailed multi-lesson protocol and is customized for each cadet. The program is not a quick fix or a magic pill of any kind.
