About the Dawkins Scholars Program
The Brigadier General Peter M. Dawkins ’59 Scholars Program (DSP) helps United States Military Academy (USMA) cadets prepare for some of the world’s most prestigious scholarships, including the Rhodes, Marshall, and Fulbright. Through a mix of challenging coursework, personalized mentorship, and professional development, DSP empowers high-achieving cadets to grow as scholars, leaders, and future Army officers who will make a lasting impact both in service and beyond.
DSP Curriculum
The Dawkins Scholars Program extends its influence beyond the cadets enrolled in its courses to the entire West Point community and the world outside West Point’s walls. The Dawkins Scholars Program isn’t limited to those formally enrolled in its courses - it inspires the entire Corps of Cadets and contributes to the broader West Point community.
If you’re a plebe eager to challenge yourself and explore your academic potential early, consider enrolling in the Center for Enhanced Performance’s RS103 course.
This 1.5-credit-hour seminar welcomes select yearlings (sophomores) into the Dawkins Scholars Program through an in-depth study of a single, thought-provoking text. In a small-group setting, you’ll explore what ambition means in the pursuit of a good life - why even the best plans sometimes fall short - and how great leaders set bold yet achievable goals. You’ll also learn how to face setbacks with resilience and purpose, building the mindset of a scholar and leader ready to make a difference.
Taken in the spring of your cow (junior) year, this 3-credit-hour course helps you connect your personal interests and passions with real-world needs to make a lasting difference. Through reflection, storytelling, and leadership exercises, you’ll discover how your unique strengths can shape meaningful service. Expect dynamic discussions, hands-on activities, and thought-provoking readings that challenge you to grow as both a scholar and a leader.
Taken in the fall of your firstie (senior) year, this 1.5-credit-hour course helps you navigate the next step in your academic and professional journey. You’ll learn how to identify the scholarships and graduate programs that best fit your goals while receiving expert guidance on crafting a standout résumé, writing powerful personal statements, requesting strong recommendations, and excelling in interviews. It’s a practical, confidence-building course designed to help you take your ambitions beyond West Point.
