SFC Alexander Tyerman is a military science instructor with the Battalion Tactical Department at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS). SFC Tyerman is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies at American Military University.

The Palm Springs, California, native enlisted in the Army in 2008 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, becoming a combat engineer (12B).

Previous assignments and positions include vehicle gunner to team leader in the 23rd Engineer Company, 6th Engineer Battalion, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska; squad leader with Charlie Company, 2nd STB and 569th MAC, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado; drill sergeant and senior drill sergeant for Alpha and Bravo Company, 35th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; RCP platoon sergeant, operations sergeant, and first sergeant of Brawler Troop, Regimental Engineer Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Fort Cavazos, Texas; and USMA tactical NCO for 2nd Regiment Echo Company, West Point, New York. 

SFC Tyerman completed two combat deployments to Afghanistan during OEF 10-11 and OEF 12-13, and one tour to Kuwait during OEF 14 (Spartan Shield).

His military education includes Route Recon Course, Combatives Level I, Drill Sergeant School, Urban Mobility Breaching Course, Equal Opportunity Leader, Sexual Harassment and Response, Master Resilient Trainer, Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, and Senior Leader Course.

Awards and decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 SOLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 CS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 3), NATO Medal, and the prestigious Steel de Fleury and Bronze de Fleury Medal.
