Command Sergeant Major Anthony D. Powers Jr. was born in Jacksonville, FL on 3 November 1980. He enlisted in the United States Army on 4 November 1999 as a Combat Engineer. Command Sergeant Major Powers is married to Mallory Powers and has three children: son Brayden and daughters Anabelle and Faith.

Command Sergeant Major Powers has served in all NCO leadership positions from Team Leader to Nominative Command Sergeant Major. He has served as the Senior Enlisted Leader of the Afghanistan District United States Corps of Engineers, Bagram Afghanistan; the 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion, Caserma Ederle, Italy; and the 555th Engineer Brigade, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. CSM Powers currently serves as the United States Corps of Cadets Command Sergeant Major at West Point.

Command Sergeant Major Powers’ military training and civilian education includes Basic Airborne School, Jumpmaster Course, Sapper Leader Course, and all levels of NCO professional development up to the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Class 69). His civilian education includes an associate and bachelor’s degrees from Excelsior College and a bachelor’s degree from the Commanding General Staff College.

Command Sergeant Major Powers’ most notable awards are Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (DMSM), Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with “C” Device), Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3OLC). He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, German Parachutist Badge, Sapper Tab, Drivers Badge (Wheeled), Drivers Badge (Tracked), and the Basic Army Instructors Badge. Command Sergeant Major Powers is also a recipient of the Bronze and Silver De Fleury Medals.
