CSM Anthony D. Powers Jr. is the 27th Command Sergeant Major, United States Corps of Cadets, in the Brigade Tactical Department at West Point. He is a member of the Commandant's Staff.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1999 as a combat engineer. He has served in all non-commissioned officer (NCO) leadership positions from team leader to nominative command sergeant major. Powers has served as the senior enlisted leader of the Afghanistan District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in Bagram, Afghanistan; the 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Caserma Ederle, Italy; and the 555th Engineer Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
CSM Powers’ military training and civilian education include Basic Airborne School, Jumpmaster Course, Sapper Leader Course and all levels of NCO professional development up to the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course (Class 69).
His most notable awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with “C” device), Army Commendation Medal (three oak leaf clusters) and Army Achievement Medal (three oak leaf clusters). He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, German Parachutist Badge, Sapper Tab, Driver’s Badge (wheeled), Driver’s Badge (tracked) and the Basic Army Instructor Badge. Powers is also a recipient of the Bronze and Silver de Fleury Medals.
CSM Powers’ civilian education includes associate and bachelor’s degrees from Excelsior College and a bachelor’s degree from the Command and General Staff College.
He is married to Mallory Powers and has three children: son Brayden and daughters Anabelle and Faith.
