MAJ Benjamin Schmidt in an instructor in the Department of English & World Languages at the United States Military Academy (USMA), where he also serves as a member of the strategic communications team.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a crypto-linguist analyst in 2002. He attended Korean language training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, for a year before being accepted to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School in 2004. Upon graduation in 2005, he matriculated to USMA and graduated with the Class of 2009, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering psychology.

MAJ Schmidt commissioned as an armor officer. His duty assignments include the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado (2010-13); 8th Army at Yongsan, Republic of Korea (2014-15); 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Cavazos, Texas (2015-18); and 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington (2021-24).

His military schooling includes Air Assault School (2007), Armor Officer Basic Course (2010), Stryker Leader Course (2010), Army Reconnaissance Course (2010), Maneuver Captains Career Course (2014), Ranger School (2014), Intermediate Level Education (2021) and Cavalry Leaders Course (2023).
