Prof. Benjamin M. Wallen, Ph.D., P.E., PMP

Dr. Wallen is a retired Engineer Officer with experience in both combat and construction units. He deployed to Iraq three times, has seven rotations to the National Training Center, and has one rotation to the Joint Readiness Training Center. His most recent assignment was part of the joint staff in Iraq working daily with Department of State and enabling the transition of U.S. military sites. His academic research interests include soil lead detection associated with spatial and temporal sources of particulate lead pollution, improvements in reverse osmosis membrane design to reduce scaling and fouling, and environmental engineering education designed to instill an environmental ethic. 

Dr. Wallen is Professor of Engineering Education and also serves as the interim Associate Dean and Director of Libraries and Archives for West Point. He teaches or has taught CV300 (Introduction to Sustainable Design), EV289A (Introduction to Independent Study and Research), EV300 (Environmental Science), EV301 (Environmental Science for Engineers and Scientists), EV350 (Environmental Engineering Technologies), EV397 (Air Pollution Engineering), EV399A (Geology Field Course), EV481 (Water Resources Planning and Design), EV489A (Advanced Individual Study 1), EV489B (Advanced Individual Study 2), and EV490 (Environmental Engineering Design). He has also served as a faculty advisor for a capstone design team in EV491 (Advanced Environmental Engineering Design).

He is the Senior Faculty Advisor for the Student Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers, Hillel, and Jewish Chapel Choir. He is also an Officer Representative with the Army Women’s Basketball Team.
