MAJ Brandon Herbst is an assistant professor and academic counselor in the Department of Law and Philosophy at the United States Military Academy.

He graduated from the University of Hartford with a bachelor of arts degree in politics and government before completing his Juris Doctor at the University of Denver. In 2010, he commissioned as an infantry officer and served as a platoon leader and executive officer with 2nd Brigade, 2nd Armored Division, Joint-Base Lewis-McChord.

MAJ Herbst transitioned to the Judge Advocate General's Corps in 2013. As a judge advocate, MAJ Herbst served in various roles, including trial counsel, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Bragg, NC; senior trial counsel, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA; operational law attorney and senior defense counsel, United States Army Africa, Vicenza, Italy; brigade judge advocate, 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas, and administrative law attorney, Office of the Judge Advocate General, Pentagon, Washington D.C.

In 2022, he earned an LL.M. in military law from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, Charlottesville, Virginia. He is admitted to practice law in Colorado and the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals.
