LTC Brodie Hoyer is an assistant professor with the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York.

He was commissioned as an engineer officer from USMA in 2003, where he majored in mechanical engineering. Since graduation, he has served in operational assignments at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), North Carolina; Fort Drum, New York; and, most recently, as the executive officer for the 2nd Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas.

LTC Hoyer earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 2013 and recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado-Boulder. He previously served as an instructor and assistant professor of mechanical engineering from 2013 to 2016 and has taught classes in design, manufacturing, dynamics, and mechanics.

Throughout his career, LTC Hoyer has held several key leadership and staff positions. In 2019, he served as the executive officer for the 2nd Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Bliss, and in 2018, he was the operations officer for the same battalion during a deployment to Kuwait. 

From 2010 to 2011, he commanded an engineer company in the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion during assignments in Iraq and at Fort Drum. Before that, he served as the brigade engineer for the 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum in 2009 and as aide-de-camp to the Deputy Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq in 2008. 

Earlier in his career, LTC Hoyer was a company executive officer and engineer platoon leader with the 37th Engineer Battalion (Airborne), serving in Afghanistan and at Fort Bragg from 2004 to 2006.
