CPT Christopher Canty

CPT Christopher Canty is an instructor in the American history division, Department of History & War Studies, at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York. He earned his M.A. in history from George Washington University in May 2025. 

He is originally from Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from USMA in 2016 after majoring in history. After graduation, he commissioned as an infantry officer and reported to Fort Benning, Georgia, for initial training. CPT Canty was then assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as both a mounted and dismounted reconnaissance platoon leader. In that role, he deployed in support of Operation Joint Guardian to Kosovo as part of KFOR24 in 2018. 

CPT Canty later served as a company executive officer and assistant operations officer in the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment before reporting back to Fort Benning in the fall of 2020 for the Maneuver Captains Career Course. He conducted a branch transfer and became an armor officer, immediately assuming command of N Troop, 3rd Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Benning.
