LTC(R) Derek Burt Instructor USMAPS Department of Mathematics derek.burt [at] westpoint.edu About Education LTC(R) Derek Burt is an instructor in the Department of Mathematics at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS).He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2004 with a master's degree in applied mathematics. He was an Air Defense Artillery and FA49 officer before retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2016.Burt taught two tours in the USMA Department of Mathematical Sciences and has taught at USMAPS since June 2016.
