Dr. Hasan Shahid, Ph.D.

Dr. Hasan Shahid is an assistant professor in the Department of English & World Languages at the United States Military Academy.

He graduated with a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Portuguese and Brazilian studies from Brown University. His dissertation examined how 20th- and 21st-century Brazilian writers have discussed the place of Muslims and Islamic culture in Brazil. Prior to beginning his doctoral coursework, he earned both an M.A. in Latin American studies and a B.A. in sociology and political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Shahid has taught Portuguese from the novice to advanced levels in a variety of academic settings, teaching Portuguese both as a second language at Brown University and Middlebury College and as a heritage language at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. He has also taught beginner Spanish to speakers of Brazilian Portuguese.
