CPT(P) Ian Griffith is an instructor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
The Short Hills, New Jersey, native graduated from the University of Kansas in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He commissioned as a field artillery officer and served across the 75th Field Artillery Brigade as a multiple launch rocket system platoon leader and headquarters battery executive officer in Fort Sill, Oklahoma,and South Korea.
From 2017-18, Griffith deployed to northeast Syria under Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve as a target acquisition platoon leader and targeting officer. Upon return, he successfully completed Civil Affairs Assessment and Selection. As a civil affairs officer, Griffith served as an operations officer, team commander, and the Civil Military Support Element Georgia commander in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
Griffith received a master's degree of education in human development from the University of Pennsylvania in 2025. His military education includes Special Operations Captain’s Career Course and Civil Affairs Qualification Course, Basic Special Operations Language Course, Joint Firepower Course, and Irregular Warfare Planner’s Course. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
He is married to Julia Griffith, and they have two children.
