MAJ(R) Jeffrey Buchheim is an aquatics instructor and serves in competitive sports and company athletics in the Department of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy.
He is originally from Runnemede, New Jersey, and enlisted in the Army in August 2000 as an infantryman. He retired after 21 years of Army service.
Buchheim spent his first 10 years of enlistment serving in the 3rd Ranger Regiment, 1st Styker Brigade Combat Team, 25th ID, and 4th Ranger Training Battalion. He deployed to Iraq from October 2004-05 and took part in operations in Baghdad, Falluja, Mosul, and Tal Afar.
He switched over from enlisted to officer under the Degree Completion Program. Upon being selected to attend Officer Candidate School, Buchheim completed his duties as a Ranger instructor in 2009 and moved down the road at Fort Benning. Upon completing Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course, he was assigned to 1st ID, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Once Buchheim arrived at his new unit, he was assigned to 2-2IN, and his first assignment was as the executive officer in B Company and deployed to AFG.
While deployed, he served as the executive officer and then took 3rd Platoon, which was the only one in the brigade with a platoon outpost in Andar subdistrict, Ghazni Providence. Upon completion of his 2011-12 deployment, his family returned to Fort Benning, where he completed his degree in criminal justice at Columbus State University in a year and 6 months. Buchheim was delayed for the Captains Career Course so IN branch assigned him to 1-50IN REG, where he took command of D Company and transformed civilians into the Army’s newest infantrymen.
After command, Buchheim then completed the Maneuver Captains Career Course. He was one of 10 officers selected to earn a master's degree in organizational leadership at Columbus State University. Upon completion, he was assigned to the 196th IN Brigade as a plans officer in the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Capability group. He then went to 3rd BDE 25th ID, BED as an AS3.
Only 3 months after becoming the AS3, Buchheim was chosen commander of C Company 2-35IN BN. He served for 18 months and was then selected to be the brigade AS3 for 3rd BDE 25th ID. Not long after taking the new position, he was selected to attend the Grade 2 staff and tactics course in New Zealand.
