MAJ Joe Feifer is deputy director of the Modern War Institute at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Upon graduation from the University of San Francisco, he was commissioned in the infantry through the Reserve Officer Training Corps and served in various leadership and staff roles in the United States and overseas. These include duties with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), the 82nd Airborne Division, the United States Intelligence Center of Excellence, the United States Army Central Command, and the United States Cyber Command.

Feifer's combat experience includes leading soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Before joining the Modern War Institute, he was a Joint Task Force J3 within the Cyber National Mission Force.

He holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of San Francisco, a master's degree in operational studies from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas.

Feifer has earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Space Badge, and the Senior Army Instructor Badge. Awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), and Army Achievement Medal (with three oak leaf clusters).

He is married to the former Lauren Taylor, and they are the proud parents of a son and daughter.
