LTC Jon Paynter is an assistant professor and deputy head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematical sciences from the United States Military Academy (2006), a Master of Science in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2014), a Master of Science in technology and policy from MIT (2014), and a doctorate in operations research from MIT (2022). His research interests include optimization, sequential decision modeling and predictive analytics, with current application areas in military personnel planning and logistics.
Before joining the USMA faculty, LTC Paynter served in the operational Army as an armor officer with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and as an analyst in the Army personnel enterprise.
