CPT Jonathan Klinner grew up in Heidelberg, Germany, and joined the Army in 2014 after graduating from Texas Tech University. Following the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as an infantry platoon leader. During that assignment, he deployed to Iraq in support of the campaign against ISIS from 2015 to 2016.

After returning from deployment, CPT Klinner served as the battalion reconnaissance platoon leader. He was selected to attend Ranger Assessment and Selection and went on to serve in 1st Ranger Battalion as both a platoon leader and executive officer. During his time in 1st Ranger Battalion, he deployed to Afghanistan in 2018 and Syria in 2019.

Following his deployment to Syria, CPT Klinner was selected to attend Special Forces Assessment and Selection at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After graduating from the Special Forces Qualification Course, he was assigned as a detachment commander in 10th Special Forces Group. While serving in 10th Group, he deployed to Poland and Ukraine during the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

After graduating from MIT with his MBA, CPT Klinner was selected to teach in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point.

His awards and decorations include the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.

CPT Klinner lives at West Point with his wife and three daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, traveling with his family, and watching college and professional athletics.
