LTC Joshua Hargarten Associate Dean for Strategy & Initiatives, Executive Secretary of the Academic Board Social Sciences Dean's Staff joshua.hargarten [at] westpoint.edu About LTC Josh Hargarten is the Associate Dean for Strategy & Initiatives, Executive Secretary of the Academic Board, and an international affairs instructor in the Department of Social Sciences.He grew up on a farm in Wisconsin before graduating from United States Military Academy in 2008 and commissioning as a field artillery officer. He served in 1st Armored Division, 170th Infantry Brigade, and 1st Infantry Division and participated in several operational deployments to the Middle East.LTC Hargarten attended graduate school at the Harvard Kennedy School and transferred into Functional Area 59 (Strategist) upon graduation in 2017. He subsequently served at Headquarters, Department of the Army, both on the Army Staff and in the Secretariat. Prior to arriving at USMA, he was the Emerging Concepts Branch Chief in Futures and Concepts Command.He is married to Jessica (née Teixeira), an assistant professor at Rutgers Medical School, and they have two young children.
