Col. Khanh Diep assumed duties as the 35th Chief of Staff of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, on June 26, 2023.
She was commissioned from the U.S. Military Academy in 1999 as an Adjutant General Corps officer. As a lieutenant, she served with the 3rd Infantry Division and deployed to Bosnia in 2000 in support of the Stabilization Force (SFOR). After completing the Adjutant General Advanced Course in 2002, she commanded a company in the 502d Personnel Services Battalion and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2006, Diep earned a master's degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University at College Station and returned to the U.S. Military Academy as an instructor in the Department of Physical Education. She later served at Fort Hood, Texas, as the senior human resources officer for the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and deployed to Iraq in 2011. Upon redeployment, she completed a broadening assignment with the Department of Veterans Affairs as an interagency fellow.
Following her assignment with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Diep served as special assistant to the 38th chief of staff of the Army. She was later selected as the senior human resources officer (G-1) for the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. She returned to Washington, D.C., to attend senior service college at the Eisenhower School, followed by a tour on the Joint Staff as special assistant and assistant executive officer to the 20th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Her most recent assignment was as the III Armored Corps G‑1 at Fort Hood, Texas.
Her awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, and the Air Assault Badge.
Diep is married to Col. Chad R. Foster. They have a son, Bryce.
