CPT Leo Matthews is an instructor of American politics in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy (USMA). His research interests include civil-military relations, counterterrorism strategy and AI applications for military intelligence.
An intelligence officer by trade, he served with the 1st Ranger Battalion from 2018-22 and completed three deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Prior to that assignment, he served in the 173rd Infantry Brigade as an infantry officer.
CPT Matthews holds a master's degree in security studies from Georgetown University and master's degree in civil engineering from USMA.
He and his wife, Dominique, have a son, Killian.
