Dr. Max Margulies is an associate professor of war studies. He previously served as the chief research officer for the Modern War Institute at West Point and in the Department of Social Sciences, where he taught international affairs and served as executive director of the Rupert H. Johnson Grand Strategy Program.

His primary interests include military personnel policies, innovation, and effectiveness. He also studies and writes broadly on civil-military relations, strategy, and conflict. Dr. Margulies holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in political science from Columbia University, and a B.A. in political science, with honors, from McGill University.
