A native of Madison, New Jersey, CPT (P) Lami was commissioned as an infantry officer from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2016. He was first assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he attended the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course and the U.S. Army Ranger School.

His initial operational assignments were as a Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader and Rifle Platoon Leader in 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment (No Slack), 1st Brigade Combat Team (Bastogne), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). 

As a rifle platoon leader, Mike deployed to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, during which 2-327 IN conducted an advise, assist, and accompany mission in northern Syria. Following this deployment, he served as the heavy weapons company executive officer and later as an operations officer.

Following his assignment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Mike attended the Special Forces Captains Career Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in January 2021. He was subsequently assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Charlie Company, where he served as the Detachment Commander of Operational Detachment Alpha 733. During his detachment command, he conducted operational deployments to Panama City, Panama; Valle de Bravo, Mexico; Tapachula, Mexico; and Punta Arenas, Chile in support of building partner force capacity.

Mike received a master of arts from The George Washington University School of Education and Human Development, obtaining a degree in organizational leadership and learning. During his graduate studies, he has served as a research assistant with the Army War College, a military advisor to the National Security Studies Program.

Mike holds a bachelor's of science in Systems Design and Management from the United States Military Academy and is a graduate of Marion Military Institute’s Service Academy Preparatory Program.

His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, a Meritorious Honor Award from the U.S. Department of State, the Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and the Ranger Tab.
