LTC Miguel A. Sanchez is deputy commandant with the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS), where he also serves on the USMAPS staff.
He was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Florida State University, where he commissioned as a military police officer through ROTC in August 2006. He served as a Gold Bar recruiter in Tallahassee, Florida, then attended the Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and the Military Police Basic Officer Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Upon graduation, LTC Sanchez was assigned to the 92nd Military Police Battalion at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he deployed to Iraq as a platoon leader with the 988th Military Police Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon redeployment, the unit relocated to Fort Leonard Wood, where he served in the battalion S-3, then attended the Military Police Captains Career Course while completing his master’s degree in business and organizational security management.
After graduation, he was assigned to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he served as the 4-10th Infantry Battalion S-3 before assuming command of the 17th Military Police Detachment and the 208th Military Police Military Working Dog Detachment. He later served as the battalion executive officer for the 2-348th Training Support Battalion at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico.
LTC Sanchez was selected to attend the Resident Command and General Staff Officer Course at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at Fort Benning, where he graduated on the Commandant’s List. He then deployed to Saudi Arabia, where he served as the Office of the Program Manager–Saudi Arabia National Guard Western Region security adviser.
Upon completion, he was assigned as the 18th Military Police Brigade plans chief and closed his tour in Germany as the 709th Military Police Battalion S-3. He then served as the U.S. Army Garrison West Point provost marshal and director of emergency services before his current assignment as the USMAPS deputy commandant.
LTC Sanchez’s military education includes Special Reaction Team Phase I, Airborne School, Conventional Physical Security/Crime Prevention Training, Company Intelligence Support Team Training, Antiterrorism Basic Officer Course, Operational Security Level II Training, Company Commander/First Sergeant Course, First Army Observer Coach/Trainer Academy, Mission Command Training Officer, Strategist (6Z ASI) and Installation Management (6Y ASI).
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with one campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with four tours, Mississippi Emergency Service Medal, Parachutist Badge and the German Armed Forces Military Efficiency Badge (Gold).
