COL Mike Powell

COL Mike Powell is an assistant professor with the Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point. He also directs the Applied Statistics and Data Science program.

He was commissioned in 2004 from the United States Military Academy as an aviation officer. Following flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama, he joined the 2-227 General Support Aviation Battalion in the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas. Over the next five years with the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade - three years at Fort Hood and two y in 2022.ears in Iraq - he served as a headquarters company executive officer, a UH-60 flight platoon leader, a UH-60 flight company commander and a brigade headquarters company commander. 

COL Powell transitioned to Functional Area 49 (operations research systems analysis) in 2013 while in graduate school en route to the Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point. He later served as an ORSA in a data scientist role with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
