MAJ Patrick J. Lupfer is an instructor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy.
He earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Northeastern University, where he commissioned as an Engineer officer in 2013. At commissioning, he was recognized as an Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate and ranked No. 1 out of 5,579 cadets on the National Order of Merit List.
MAJ Lupfer’s previous assignments include service with the 307th Engineer Battalion; 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion; Headquarters, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division; Headquarters, 20th Engineer Brigade; and the 27th Engineer Battalion (Airborne), all at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), North Carolina. His roles have included Company Intelligence Support Team officer in charge, task force battle captain, platoon leader, S3-Air operations officer, brigade assistant plans officer, theater engineer brigade program manager, and company commander.
His operational experience includes two deployments: to Afghanistan in 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XIII and to Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria in 2018–19 in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve.
MAJ Lupfer is a graduate of multiple Army leadership schools, as well as the Army’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt courses. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an M.S. in civil engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology. He is a certified Project Management Professional and a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation (1 OLC), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO ISAF Medal, Ranger Tab, Sapper Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Air Assault Badge. He has received the Steel de Fleury Medal and is authorized to wear Spanish, Dutch, German, Canadian, and Latvian parachutist badges.
MAJ Lupfer is originally from Medford, New York, and remains a resident of New York state.
