LTC Paul Flanigen is an assistant professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy.
Following flight school, LTC Flanigen was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in 2009. After completing the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, he deployed a second time in support of OEF in 2011 where he commanded the division’s CH-47F flight company.
In 2012, LTC Flanigen transitioned into the Acquisition Corps (Functional Area 51). After graduating from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, he served as an experimental test pilot at the Redstone Test Center, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. He subsequently led the American team investigating solutions for flight operations in fog, brownout, and other degraded visual environments alongside NATO partners, conducting flight trials in Arizona, Germany, and Switzerland from 2016 to 2018. Following this assignment, he managed the sustainment and development of a variety of sensor systems used by Army Special Operations Aviation.
From 2023 to 2026, LTC Flanigen served as the Product Manager for Assured Airspace Access Systems (A3S), the Acquisition Corps equivalent of battalion command, within Capability Program Executive Aviation. In this role, he led the team responsible for designing, developing, and fielding navigation and surveillance systems for more than 4,000 Army aviation platforms, as well as air traffic control equipment for over 80 Army airfields worldwide.
His military aircraft qualifications include the CH-47D/F, UH-60A/L/M, UH-72, and C-12 aircraft.
