MAJ Richard Calvin

MAJ Richard Calvin is an instructor in the Department of Physics & Nuclear Engineering at the United States Military Academy (USMA). MAJ Calvin currently serves as the PH251, Advanced Physics 1, course director, as a NE495 capstone advisor, and as an officer representative for the USMA rifle team. He is now a nuclear and counter weapons of mass destruction officer (Functional Area 52). 

He commissioned into the Ordnance Corps from USMA in 2014. He holds a B.S. in nuclear engineering from USMA and an M.S. in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. His thesis was entitled “Examination of Hypothetical Transportation Accidents for Transportable Nuclear Power Plants.” 

After completing Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) school in 2015, MAJ Calvin served as a platoon leader in the 74th Ordnance Company (EOD) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He also served as the deputy secretary of the general staff for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Following the Logistics Captains Career Course, he served as the commander for the 756th Ordnance Company (EOD) at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Post command, MAJ Calvin served as the operations officer for Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordination Team – 2 at the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear, and Explosives Command at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.

He married Ashley Calvin in 2015, and they have two children, Mason and Emilia.
