The Frisco, California, native graduated with the USMA Class of 2015, earning a bachelor's degree in military history. MAJ Vanderkooi earned a master's degree in U.S. history from the University of Tennessee in 2025.After graduating from USMA, he commissioned as an Armor officer and has served in the 9th, 10th, and 15th U.S. Cavalry regiments.
