CPT(P) Taylor Gugel grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Massachusetts. After graduation, she was commissioned through ROTC into the transportation branch. Gugel first served as a platoon leader and mobility officer in the 916th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Irwin, California. She was then assigned as an executive officer in the 551st Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 19th Material Support Command, at Camp Carroll, Korea.
After being promoted to captain, Gugel worked in the support operations section of the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. She soon took command of Echo Forward Support Company, 299th Brigade Engineer Battalion. Gugel was then selected to teach as a small group leader at the Logistics Captains Career Course before attending graduate school at San Diego State University.
Upon earning a master’s degree in history with a concentration in war and society from San Diego State University in 2024, Gugel arrived at West Point to teach in the American History Division.
