CPT Travis Salley

CPT Travis Salley is an instructor in the Department of History & War Studies at the United States Military Academy.

He grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in 2010, he enlisted in the Nevada National Guard as a 12B combat engineer. In 2013, CPT Salley commissioned into the U.S. Army Reserve as a signal officer through ROTC. His reserve assignments included battalion S-6 at the 382nd Military Police Battalion and aide-de-camp at the 81st Regional Support Command.

In 2017, he transitioned to active duty. He served as a platoon leader in the 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion and deployed with Army North to Puerto Rico for Hurricane Maria response operations. COT Salley later served as battalion S-6 with the 3rd Infantry Division during a nine-month tour in Korea. He commanded Company A and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

CPT Salley’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Nevada, Reno; a Master of Music in music history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst; and a Master of Arts in history from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is currently working on his dissertation for a doctorate in war and society.

He and wife Rachel have three children: Jack, Mason, and Wesley.
