MAJ Tyler J. Halbert

MAJ Tyler Halbert graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 2011. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry.
His first assignment was to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, where he served as a Stryker platoon leader, Stryker company executive officer, and Headquarters and Headquarters company executive officer in the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
Following his assignment to Fort Wainwright, MAJ Halbert attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was then assigned to Fort Shafter, Hawaii, with the 196th Infantry Brigade, where he served as an assistant mobilization officer in support of U.S. Army National Guard and Reserve Component forces mobilization efforts in U.S. Army Pacific Command for eight months.
MAJ Halbert then transitioned to the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as a battalion plans officer for 12 months in the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. MAJ Halbert commanded Delta Company and was selected to command Headquarters and Headquarters company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, for an additional eight months.
Following his successful commands, MAJ Halbert transitioned to Functional Area 52 – Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Officer – where he immediately started graduate school to pursue a Master of Science in nuclear engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology. He reported to his current position as deputy director in the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Nuclear Science and Engineering Research Center in spring 2024.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Expert Infantryman Badge, and Army Parachutist Badge. He is a Centurion in the Order of St. Maurice and a Distinguished Member of the 27th Infantry Regiment.
MAJ Halbert is married to the former Elise Kelly, and they have two sons.
