MAJ William D. Miller

MAJ Duncan Miller is an instructor in the Department of Geography & Earth Sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

He graduated from USMA in 2015 and commissioned into the Medical Service Corps as a 67J Aeromedical Evacuation Officer (DUSTOFF). After completing the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Basic Officer Leadership Course in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio he attended Initial Entry Rotary Wing training in Fort Rucker, AL. After flight school, he moved to Fort Hood, TX and was assigned to 4/C/2-227 Aviation Regiment. Upon completion of this assignment, he served at Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii.

As an aeromedical evacuation officer, Duncan has served as HH-60M Black Hawk pilot-in-command and officer in various environments to assist joint, multinational, and civilian partners. He has supported aviation operations primarily through expeditious evacuation of wounded personnel, search and rescue operations, and aerial firefighting efforts. His assignments include section leader and platoon leader in C/2-227 Aviation Regiment "Witchdoctors", assistant operations officer to 3-25 Aviation Regiment "Hammerheads", and operations officer and executive officer to C/3-25 Aviation Regiment "Lightning DUSTOFF"

MAJ Miller holds a bachelor's degree in environmental geography from USMA and a master's degree in geography and environment from the University of Hawai'i where he also acquired an academic certificate in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (DMHA). His research interests explore natural disaster risk, relief, and recovery with an emphasis on military provided humanitarian assistance and its impact on national security.
