Major McCoy Bean is originally from Seattle, Washington, by way of upstate New York, and southern New Jersey. He graduated and commissioned from the United States Military Academy in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in American Politics and Policy.

Major Bean commissioned as an Army Aviator, reported to U.S. Army Flight School at Fort Novosel, Alabama. He completed Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and Advanced Aircraft training in the AH-64D Apache helicopter, graduating in May of 2017.

He then reported to 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, in the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade at Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii. He served as a line Aviation Platoon Leader, and later as a Distribution Platoon Leader. He completed three Combat Training Center rotations inside one calendar year in these positions. He is most proud of his distribution platoon operating three simultaneous Forward Arming and Refueling Points (FARPs) across 75 miles of desert.

Major Bean returned to Fort Novosel for Aviation Captain’s Career Course and Air Cavalry Leader’s Course in 2020. Following completion of those courses he was assigned to the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade in Fort Drum, New York. He served on 1-10 Attack Battalion’s staff before taking command of Bravo Company, 1-10 AB “Killer Spades!” He is indebted to the soldiers who tirelessly turned wrenches.

Major Bean’s military education includes Airborne, Air Assault, and Master Resiliency Trainer. His favorite Army experiences include catching Oahu sunsets from the front seat of an Apache, flying over Niagara Falls, and landing on the Plain for West Point’s branch week.

Prior to coming to the Simon Center, MAJ Bean attended the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) completing an MBA in 2024. He graduated as a Trust Community Fellow, recognizing his leadership at MIT.

He and his wife met during summer training as cadets and have been together ever since. Veronica (USMA 16’), transitioned from Army Public Affairs in 2023 to become a speech writer for West Wing Writers.
