Tim Hansen is in his eighth year as an assistant professor of physical education and head athletic trainer at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School. His responsibilities include directing the sports medicine team and providing quality medical care to all varsity and club sport programs, as well as to the entire Cadet Candidate Battalion.

In addition to his duties in the athletic training facilities, Mr. Hansen serves as an instructor of remedial fitness, rehabilitation and nutrition.

Prior to his appointment at USMAPS, Mr. Hansen served as an assistant athletic trainer at Georgia Tech, working with the men’s basketball program from 2000 to 2007. Highlights of his tenure in Atlanta, Georgia, include a trip to the 2004 Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, and the 2004 NCAA National Championship game. He has traveled internationally, serving as the athletic trainer for college all-star teams that traveled to the United Kingdom in 2002 and to Austria and Slovenia in 2005.

In 2011, he served as the head athletic trainer for the USA Basketball U-19 team that competed in the FIBA U-19 World Championships in Latvia.

Mr. Hansen is currently a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving as the 411th Engineer Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander. Prior to this, he served as the medical operations officer of the unit. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Hansen earned his undergraduate degree from Kean University in 1997 and his master’s degree from Syracuse University in 2000. While at Syracuse, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with football, men’s basketball and lacrosse.

He has also worked in the clinical setting at Excel Orthopedic Rehabilitation in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and in the professional setting, interning with both the New York Football Giants and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.

He is currently licensed by the state of New York and certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He is also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist, and as a corrective exercise specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
