Academy professors serve as military and academic leaders within their respective departments. They are a critical link between the senior academic leaders at West Point and the remainder of the faculty and staff.
At this time, there are no permanent faculty openings at the United States Military Academy. A new cycle of openings will become available for the hiring cycle in March 2026. In the meantime, interested personnel can read more about the requirements for Functional Area 47 officers in the Officer Talent Management, DA Pam 600-3.
Applicants must have a strong commitment to the educational, military, physical, and ethical development of cadets. Dedication to excellence in teaching is an absolute requirement.
The U.S. Military Academy is an equal opportunity employer.
As a Functional Area 47 officer at West Point, you’ll be part of a unique academic community where your operational experience enhances cadet education. You’ll teach, mentor, and help shape curriculum that bridges military practice with academic rigor. Your role is central to developing leaders of character - cadets who think critically, communicate effectively, and lead ethically.
At USMA, you’ll collaborate with scholars and officers across disciplines, contribute to research, and influence the future of the Army through education. If you're passionate about leadership, learning, and service, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
