The mission of the Department of Foreign Languages is to develop, through education in the languages, cultures, and regions of the world, commissioned leaders of character so that each can thrive in complex international security environments and is prepared to serve around the globe throughout a career of service to the nation.

Cadets can choose from one of six minor tracks: Middle East, East Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, or Eurasia.

Immersion opportunities may come in the form of a Semester Abroad Program (SAP), Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD), Military Individual Academic Development (MIAD), or Spring Immersion.
Colonel John Baskerville graduated from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Arabic and French Studies. In July 2010, COL Baskerville assumed duties as an Academy Professor and Program Coordinator for Arabic in the Department of Foreign Languages at West Point.
