Learn about the language, history, and culture of Africa through an interdisciplinary approach.

Cadets who major in Africa foreign area studies pursue an interdisciplinary approach to understanding global and regional issues related to Africa. Language electives focus on French or Portuguese. Complementary support courses in the humanities and social sciences enrich an Africa foreign studies major’s regional capabilities. The major offers an honors curriculum.

Cadets may enrich their experience through interaction with the French and Portuguese Forums, where they can learn about language and culture through trip sections and other activities such as a summer Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD) program, USMA-run academic enrichment experience.
