Mr. Aaron M. Owens

USMAPS Department of Natural Sciences
Aaron Owens is the senior instructor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) at West Point, New York. The Charleston, South Carolina, native has been a senior instructor at USMAPS since 2018.
Mr. Owens obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Francis Marion University in South Carolina. He commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps via ROTC.
As a junior officer, he was stationed at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, serving as a platoon leader and executive officer in the 194th Maintenance Battalion. After Korea, he was assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he served as a platoon leader and maintenance control officer in Maintenance Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was the troop commander of Maintenance Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, at Fort Irwin, California.
At Fort Carson, Colorado, Mr. Owens served with the Security Force Assistance Team in Nangalam, Kunar Province, Afghanistan, and retired from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, where he served as the company commander of the 602nd Brigade Support Company, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.
After receiving his master’s degree in biology from Arkansas State University in 2008, he was selected to teach at the United States Military Academy. He served as a general chemistry instructor and as the cell biology instructor and course director.
