MAJ Arthur Avery is an instructor in the military division with the Department of History & War Studies at the United States Military Academy.
He commissioned into the Ordnance Corps from Illinois State University’s Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program with a history major in 2014 and has worked in maintenance and logistics at the tactical level for most of his Army career. In 2017-18, Avery deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, as a NATO maintenance team leader working with United States, Romanian, and Bulgarian forces in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
After his 2018 graduation from the Combined Logistics Captain Career Course at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, then known as Fort Lee, he served with the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. There, Avery commanded the Bravo Maintenance Company, 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade from 2019-21 and completed a master's degree in procurement and acquisition management from Webster University.
After command, he earned a master's degree in history from the University of North Texas.
