MAJ Charles Ouellette is an assistant professor and academic counselor in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences (GEO) at the United States Military Academy (USMA). Since 2016, he has taught eight courses at USMA while serving in GEO and the Department of Chemical & Biological Science & Engineering. In addition to teaching, Ouellette currently serves as the Executive Officer of the Center for Environmental and Geographic Studies.

 

He is a Michigan native who commissioned as an engineer officer after graduating from Michigan State University in 2006. Ouellette subsequently served in light infantry and combat engineer airborne units at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and the Army’s only arctic airborne brigade combat team in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He has served in combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009-2010 and Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan in 2012, where he earned the Purple Heart.

 

Ouellette has master's degrees in geological engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and ecology from Cornell University. His research interests include the biogeochemistry of nitrogen and sulfur in ombrotrophic bogs, educational leadership, and AI-enhanced strategies for improving student learning in STEM education.
