CPT(P) David Marthy is an instructor in the Department of History & War Studies at the United States Military Academy.
He grew up in Latham, New York, and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
After serving briefly as an infantryman in the New York Army National Guard, Marthy commissioned through ROTC into the Infantry branch. He served as a platoon leader with the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, at Fort Carson, Colorado. Marthy later served as a platoon leader in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) at Arlington National Cemetery. After promoting to captain, he transitioned to the Military Intelligence branch, where he served as a battalion S-2 and deployed to Iraq and Central America with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
Marthy arrived at West Point in 2024 with a master’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is joined by his wife, Kayla, daughters Elizabeth and Charlotte, and their dog, Lola.
