Dr. Eric Williamson is the Class of '53 Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering and a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the United States Military Academy (USMA).
Before joining the USMA faculty, he was a professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin, where he held the Phil M. Ferguson Professorship in Engineering. Prior to joining the UT faculty, he was a research engineer at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Williamson's research focuses on the response of structures near the onset of collapse, with particular emphasis on structures subjected to blast, impact, and progressive collapse. In 2009, he was awarded the ASCE Walter L. Huber Research Prize for his contributions to the analysis and design of bridges subjected to blast loads.
Professionally, he participates on several technical committees at the national level and has held several leadership positions within the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Concrete Institute.
Dr. Williamson is registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
