MAJ Ermin Mujezinovic was born in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He immigrated to the United States in 2001 as a war refugee. He earned a Master of Arts in Russian, Eurasian and East European studies from Columbia University’s Harriman Institute and a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science with a minor in Spanish from the Virginia Military Institute.

MAJ Mujezinovic was commissioned as an infantry officer and served at Fort Hood, Texas, and in Korea as a platoon leader, company executive officer, battalion adjutant and assistant operations officer. In 2018, he became a civil affairs officer, deployed to Germany and served as a desk officer for eight countries in the Balkans. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia as a civil affairs team leader.

Following his assignment at West Point, he will move to Europe as a 48E (European foreign area officer).

MAJ Mujezinovic is a former NCAA Division I cross-country and track athlete at VMI and currently aims to complete all six major world marathons. He has run Chicago in 2:35, the New York City Marathon in 2:46, Boston in 2:38 and the Berlin Marathon in 2:32:32, averaging 5:45 per mile. He is racing the New York City Marathon in November with the intent to run under 2:30 at an average pace of 5 minutes and 41 seconds per mile. Two years ago, he won the cross-country national championship with the All-Army team, and this year he was selected as an athlete for Puma Project 3.
